Democratic Debate II - Immigration Plans - Day 2 -

Wednesday, July 31, CNN will host the second night of the Second Democratic Debate. Below is a list of Wednesday's candidates as well as a brief overview of their immigration policies. Please note these lists are not comprehensive. More detailed information can be found on each candidates' respective website. 

 

Former Vice President Joe Biden

     Enact humane immigration policies while maintaining border security

     Address the root causes of migration

 

Sen. Kamala Harris, California

     Reinstate DACA(Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans)

     Restore and expand TPS (Temporary Protected Status)

     Close private immigrant detention centers

     Increase oversight of agencies like CBP (Customs and Border Protection)

 

Sen. Cory Booker, New Jersey

     End family separation

     Expand protections for DREAMers and people with TPS and Deferred Enforced Departure.

     Create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants living in the United States

 

Former HUD secretary Julián Castro

     Revamp visa system and strengthen family reunification

     End Trump travel bans

     Increase refugee admissions

     Decriminalize illegal migration

     Eliminate private detention facilities

     Reshape ICE and CBP

     Increase support to Central American countries

 

Mr. Andrew Yang

     Increase guest worker program

     Address high numbers of illegal immigrants

     Protect DREAMers

     Secure the Southern Border in a humane manner

 

 

Sen. Michael Bennet, Colorado

     Protect DREAMers

     End family separation

 

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, New York

     Protect DREAMers

     Create a pathway to citizenship

 

Gov. Jay Inslee, Washington

     End work on President Trump's wall

     End Muslim ban

     Protect DACA

     Increase refugee admissions to the United States

     Restore foreign assistance aid to Northern Triangle Countries (Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador)

     Centered a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and expedited eligibility for DREAMers

 

Two candidates do not have a clear immigration plan on their websites. These are: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii and Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City. Mayor de Blasio's campaign website lists his past accomplishments regarding immigration, but does not seem to list future plans.
